The Buffalo Niagara Partnership (BNP) traces its historical roots back to 1844 with the founding of the Buffalo Board of Trade. Over the subsequent 180 years, the organization evolved through various mergers and re-organizations, eventually becoming the modern regional chamber of commerce and primary employers' association for Western New York. Headquartered in downtown Buffalo on Perry Street, the Partnership has historically championed major infrastructure projects, industrial expansions, and workforce development initiatives that have shaped the economic landscape of the Buffalo-Niagara metro region.
Representing a massive network of employers, the Partnership serves businesses of all sizes—from small local startups and family-owned enterprises to multinational corporations and major non-profit institutions—across the eight counties of Western New York, with a primary focus on Erie and Niagara counties. Through its diverse membership, the BNP impacts a regional workforce of hundreds of thousands of employees, working to align business growth with community prosperity and talent retention.
The central mission of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership is to make Buffalo Niagara a better place to do business and to drive regional economic growth. The organization operates under a mandate to represent the collective voice of the business community, actively advocating for pro-growth public policies at the local, state, and federal levels, while providing its members with critical networking opportunities, professional development programs, and regional economic data.
The Partnership operates several highly influential initiatives, including the Industry Leaders Forum, the NY SMART I-Corridor coalition, and specialized talent development programs such as BNP Grow. It hosts dozens of in-person networking events, economic forecasting seminars, and executive roundtables annually, fostering collaboration across sectors. As the premier business advocacy group in WNY, the BNP plays a defining role in regional lobbying efforts, workforce recruitment, and driving economic development policy.
