Audubon Library Announces New Weekend STEM Programs for Kids

By Stroubly Staff|Posted: Mar 24, 2026 / 7:18 AM UTC

The Amherst Public Library's Audubon branch is rolling out a free, hands-on robotics and coding series for elementary school students this April.

WHY IT MATTERS: This program provides free, accessible technology education to local children, giving them hands-on experience with modern STEM concepts.

Parents looking for weekend activities for their children have a new, educational option right in their backyard. The Audubon Branch of the Amherst Public Library has announced a new 'Spring STEM Saturdays' initiative, offering free, hands-on science and technology workshops for children in grades 2 through 5.

Funded by a recent grant from a local technology foundation, the library has purchased several sets of beginner-friendly robotics kits and tablets. The program aims to introduce young students to basic coding concepts and engineering principles in a fun, low-pressure environment.

"We want to bridge the gap between classroom learning and creative play," said Children's Librarian Sarah O'Connor. "In these sessions, kids will actually get to build small robots and program them to navigate mazes we set up in the community room. It's incredibly rewarding to see their faces light up when their code actually works."

The program will run every Saturday morning from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM throughout the month of April. Registration is completely free but strictly limited to 15 students per session due to equipment constraints. Parents can sign up their children via the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library website starting this Friday.
