Concerned about safety on my street
I just heard about the shooting on Westminster Ave and I am getting really worried about the safety in my neighborhood. I live just a few blocks away on Elmwood Ave and I have kids who attend Buffalo Public Schools. I dont want them to have to worry about gunfire when theyre walking home from school. Has anyone else heard anything about what happened? I was talking to my neighbor who owns a shop on Hertel Ave and she said shes seen an increase in police presence lately, but I still dont feel like its enough. We need to do something to make our streets safer. Does anyone have any ideas or know of any community initiatives that are working to address this issue? I want to get involved and make a difference.

Proud of our hockey fans
I was at the Sabres game on Tuesday and I was so proud of our fans when they finished singing 'O Canada' after the singer's mic malfunctioned. It was such a classy move and it really showed the spirit of our city. I was sitting near a group of fans from Boston and they were all impressed by our fans' behavior. I have been a season ticket holder for years and I have seen some tough times, but moments like that remind me why I love being a part of this community. We may not always have the best team, but we have the best fans. I hope the team can turn things around next season and make a deeper run in the playoffs. We deserve it after all the years of supporting them through thick and thin. Let's go Sabres!

Downtown Development
Revitalization of the Buffalo Grand hotel
I just heard that Harry Stinson has a new plan to revive the Buffalo Grand hotel and I am so excited. I have always loved the architecture of that building and I think it would be amazing to see it restored to its former glory. I have walked by that hotel many times on my way to grab a coffee at Rowhouse Bakery on Elmwood Ave and I have always wondered what it would be like to stay there. I think this could be a great opportunity for our city to attract more tourists and businesses. We have so much to offer, from the waterfront to the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, and I think a renovated hotel would be a great addition to our city. I hope the city council will support this project and make it happen. It would be a great way to revitalize our downtown area and bring in some new energy.

Fire on Seneca Street, anyone have info?
I was driving down Seneca Street this morning and saw a bunch of fire trucks and police cars outside a building near the intersection with Cazenovia Street. Does anyone know what happened? I hope it wasn't a serious fire and that everyone is okay. I've lived in the South Buffalo neighborhood my whole life and it's always scary to see something like this happen so close to home. I'm going to try to find out more information and will post an update if I hear anything. In the meantime, if anyone has any info or saw what happened, please let me know. I'm worried about the businesses on that block, like Gene McCarthy's and Charlie's Boat Yard, and hope they weren't affected by the fire.

Who else is excited for the new Broadway season at Shea's?
I just heard that Shea's Performing Arts Center announced their new Broadway season and I couldn't be more excited. I've been a season ticket holder for years and it's always such a treat to see the shows they bring in. This year's lineup looks amazing, with everything from classic musicals to modern hits. I'm especially looking forward to the show at the 710 Main Theatre, it's one of my favorite venues in the city. Has anyone else seen the lineup and what are you most looking forward to? I'm thinking of making a night of it and grabbing dinner at one of the restaurants on Chippewa Street beforehand. Maybe we can even get a group together to go see a show, anyone interested?

Housing
Fastest-Growing Home Prices in the Buffalo Metro Area
I just saw an article about the cities with the fastest-growing home prices in the Buffalo metro area and I was surprised to see that some of the suburbs are experiencing such rapid growth. As someone who is looking to buy a house in the near future, I’m interested in learning more about the different neighborhoods and what they have to offer. I’ve been looking at houses in the University Heights neighborhood, near the University at Buffalo, and I love the area. But I’m also considering other neighborhoods like Parkside and Elmwood Village. Has anyone else noticed the changes in the housing market? What are some of the most up-and-coming neighborhoods in the area? I’d love to hear about your experiences and get some recommendations. I’ve heard that the restaurants on Hertel Avenue are amazing - has anyone tried any of them?

Buffalo Comptroller Dispute Finally Resolved
I just heard that the court ruled in favor of issuing the approved bonds, ending the months-long dispute between the Buffalo comptroller and the city. As a homeowner on West Ferry Street, I’m relieved that this is finally resolved. I was getting worried that it would affect our property values and the overall economy of the city. I’m glad that the city can move forward with its plans for development and improvement. I remember when I was a student at Canisius College, we would always discuss the importance of responsible city management and budgeting. It’s good to see that the city is taking steps in the right direction. What are your thoughts on this - do you think it will have a positive impact on our city?

Just got back from the National Championships at UB and I'm so inspired
I just got back from the National Championships at the University at Buffalo and I have to say, it was amazing to watch the Olympic artistic swimmers compete. The event was held at the Alumni Arena and it was packed with people from all over the city, including a lot of students from my kid's school, City Honors. The energy in the room was electric and it was so cool to see the athletes perform their routines. I'm so grateful to have events like this in our city, it's a great way to bring the community together and inspire our kids to get involved in sports. And it's always great to see the UB campus, it's such a beautiful spot, especially with the lake views. Has anyone else been to the championships or watched the swimmers practice at the pool on Bailey Avenue?

Let's Support Nate in His Fight Against Testicular Cancer
I just read the story about Nate's battle with testicular cancer and I'm so inspired by his courage. As a resident of Buffalo, I think we should come together to support him and others who are going through similar struggles. I've seen the great work being done at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center on Elm and Carlton Streets, and I'm proud to call it my hometown hospital. Let's show our support for Nate and his family by sharing his story and raising awareness about testicular cancer. I'd like to organize a fundraiser to help support Nate's treatment and I'm thinking of reaching out to local businesses like Anchor Bar on Main Street or Gene McCarthy's on Hamburg Street to see if they'd be willing to donate or host an event. If you're interested in helping out, please let me know and we can start making plans. We can also spread the word through social media and encourage our friends and family to share Nate's story. Let's come together as a community to support Nate and show him that we care. We can make a difference in his life and the lives of others who are fighting against cancer. I'm proud to be a part of this community and I know that together, we can do great things.

Chemical Spill Stench Hits North Buffalo
I was driving down Hertel Avenue yesterday and couldn’t help but notice the awful smell in the air. Turns out it was from a chemical spill in Fort Erie - who knew? I mean, I’ve lived in North Buffalo my whole life and never experienced anything like it. The smell was so bad I had to roll up my windows and turn on the AC, even though it was a nice day out. I hope they get it cleaned up soon, for the sake of our neighborhood. I went to get coffee at Rowhouse Bakery & Restaurant on Elmwood Avenue and everyone was talking about it. The barista said she had to close all the windows at her house on Lincoln Parkway because the smell was so overpowering. It’s crazy how something like this can affect our whole community. Has anyone else noticed the smell?

Who's Ready for the Concerts in Buffalo This May
I just saw the list of concerts coming to Buffalo this May and I'm so excited! There are some amazing acts lined up, from rock to pop to hip hop. I'm definitely planning on checking out some of the shows at Canalside on Prime Street or the Town Ballroom on Main Street. Has anyone else seen the list and is planning on attending any of the concerts? I'm thinking of meeting up with friends at a local bar like the Old First Ward's Gene McCarthy's or the Cobblestone District's Helium Comedy Club before the shows. We can grab a bite to eat and catch up before heading to the concert. If you're interested in joining us, let me know and we can make plans. I'm also looking for recommendations on which concerts to check out, so feel free to share your thoughts. Let's make this a month to remember in Buffalo! With so many great concerts and events happening, I know we'll have a blast. I'm looking forward to seeing some of you out at the shows.

Go Sabres! Let's Show Our Team Spirit
I'm so frustrated with the Sabres' performance this season, but I'm still proud to call myself a fan. I think we need to show our team spirit and support them, even when they're not doing their best. I'm planning on heading to the KeyBank Center on Perry Street to catch a game and cheer on our team. Who's with me? I've seen some of the negative comments about the team's lineup and goalie situation, but I think we should focus on supporting our players rather than tearing them down. Let's show them that we believe in them and that we're behind them all the way. I'm thinking of organizing a pre-game rally at a local bar like 716 Food and Sport on Scott Street or the Pan-American Grill and Brewery on Main Street. We can get pumped up and ready to cheer on our team. Let's go Sabres! I know we can turn this season around and make it a great one. I'm proud to be a part of this community and I know that together, we can make a difference. Let's show our team spirit and support our Sabres!

Bills Draft Picks - What Do You Think?
I was just grabbing a coffee at Rowhouse Bakery on Elmwood Avenue and overheard some guys talking about the Bills' draft picks. I'm a huge fan and I'm really hoping Brandon Beane can work some magic this year. We need some serious talent to fill those roster gaps. I've been a season ticket holder for years and I've seen some ups and downs, but I'm feeling pretty optimistic about this year. Has anyone else been following the draft news? What do you think about our chances this season? I'm planning on heading to New Era Field with some friends from Canisius College to catch a game and I want to make sure we're all ready for a winning season. Let me know your thoughts! Sabres Fever is Back
I was driving down Elmwood Avenue yesterday and saw all the Sabres flags and banners, it got me so hyped for the playoffs. I've been a season ticket holder for years and I'm thrilled to see them take on the Bruins. I'm planning to grab a bite to eat at Gene McCarthy's before the game, has anyone tried their new menu? I'm a little worried about the traffic on Hopkins Road with all the construction, but I'm sure it'll be worth it to see the Sabres play. Let's go Buffalo!, I went to Canisius High School and we always had a rivalry with the Boston schools, so this series is going to be intense. Does anyone know if the Sabres are doing any giveaways or promotions for the first game? I want to make sure I get there early to grab some swag.

City Projects
Digital mapping of Buffalo streets
I was reading an article about how the city is planning to digitally map all the streets in Buffalo to help guide repairs. As someone who's lived on the West Side for years, I can attest to the fact that our roads are in desperate need of repair. I've lost count of how many times I've had to replace my car's suspension due to all the potholes on Richmond Avenue. I'm glad to see that the city is taking steps to address this issue, but I hope they don't forget about the smaller side streets like mine. It seems like all the attention is always focused on the main roads like Delaware Avenue and Hertel Avenue, while the rest of us are left to deal with crumbling infrastructure. I'm curious to know more about how this project will work and how residents can get involved. Will we be able to report potholes and other issues through an app or website? I'd love to see some transparency and accountability in this process, especially since it's our tax dollars that are funding it.

Ingram Micro is coming to Downtown Buffalo
I just heard that Ingram Micro is bringing 1,200 employees to their new office on Main Street in Downtown Buffalo. I work at a coffee shop on Elmwood Avenue and I'm excited to see all the new faces, hopefully they'll be stopping by for a cup of coffee on their way to work. I've been living in the Allentown neighborhood for a few years now and it's amazing to see all the new developments popping up around the city. I'm a little concerned about the traffic on Main Street though, it's already pretty congested during rush hour. I hope the city has a plan to improve the infrastructure to accommodate all the new commuters. Has anyone else heard about this or have any thoughts on how it will affect our community? I'm looking forward to seeing the impact that Ingram Micro will have on our local economy, maybe it will even bring some new businesses to the area. I've heard rumors that there are plans to renovate some of the old buildings on Genesee Street, maybe we'll see some new restaurants or shops popping up soon.

Go Bandits
Just got back from the Bandits game at the KeyBank Center and I'm still buzzing from the energy. Dhane Smith is an absolute legend, the way he led the team to victory was incredible. I've been a season ticket holder for years and it's amazing to see how far the team has come. I'm a little biased since I grew up in the University Heights neighborhood and went to UB, but I think the Bandits are a great representation of our city's spirit. We're a tough, resilient community and our sports teams reflect that. Anyone else catch the game last night? What did you think of the new perspective that Dhane Smith is bringing to the team? I'm excited to see how the rest of the season plays out, maybe we'll even make it to the championships this year.

Getting Involved in the Community
I've been looking for ways to get involved in the Buffalo community, and I'm excited to start volunteering at a local non-profit. The organization is located near the intersection of Main Street and Utica Street, and works to provide support and services to underserved communities. I'm also thinking about joining a community garden, I've heard it's a great way to meet new people and get involved in the community. The garden is located near the intersection of Elmwood Avenue and Bidwell Parkway, and features a variety of plots and programs for gardeners of all levels. I'm so excited to start making a difference in Buffalo and to meet other residents who are passionate about the community. The area around the non-profit, including the nearby Masten Park, is also a popular spot for community events and gatherings.

My Favorite Restaurant in Buffalo
I love eating at Anchor Bar, it's one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The bar is located near the intersection of Main Street and North Street, and is famous for its buffalo wings. I also enjoy visiting the Elmwood Village, it's such a vibrant and eclectic neighborhood with many unique shops and restaurants. The village is located near the intersection of Elmwood Avenue and Bidwell Parkway, and features a variety of dining options, from casual eateries to fine dining establishments. Buffalo has such a great food scene, there's always something new to try. I feel so lucky to have so many amazing restaurants to choose from. The area around Anchor Bar, including the nearby Lafayette Square, is also a popular spot for nightlife and entertainment.

Whoever parks the black F-150 on Richmond Ave β€” please, just back it up two feet
I'm not trying to be difficult about this, but I need to say something. The person with the big black Ford F-150 who parks on the west side of Richmond near West Ferry β€” your truck bed is sticking out past your driveway and blocking the entire sidewalk. It has been doing this every morning for two weeks. I push my daughter in her stroller down Richmond on the way to get coffee every morning, and I've had to bail into the bike lane to get around your truck. Richmond during rush hour is not the place to be doing that with a stroller. It's genuinely dangerous. I really don't want to call parking enforcement on a neighbor. But I also can't just keep doing this. Two feet back and the problem is solved β€” please.

Looking for an honest roofer in North Buffalo or Kenmore
That windstorm last week got me. I went up into the attic yesterday and found a small leak forming right above my guest bedroom. I've got one of those old 1920s doubles off Hertel, and the roof was already on borrowed time β€” so I think I'm looking at a full replacement. I've already called two of the big radio-advertising companies and both quotes came back at numbers I can't justify. I'm looking for a local crew that knows what they're doing, cleans their nails out of the driveway when they're done, and isn't going to try to talk me into a skylight I don't need. If you've had good work done on a similar house in North Buffalo or Kenmore, please drop the name below. Really appreciate it.

Questions & Answers
Can anyone tell me what actually happened at Ralph Wilson Park?
I read the Buffalo News piece about the Conservancy leadership all resigning at once and I genuinely can't figure out what triggered it. They literally have nobody left except an acting chairman. I live on the Lower West Side, so I've had a front-row seat to the construction and all the road closures that came with it. We've been patient through all of it because the promise of what this park is supposed to become is real. A $250 million waterfront transformation is a big deal for this neighborhood. Does anyone have any actual inside knowledge about what caused the exodus? And does this push the summer opening back? That's the part I'm most worried about.

Public Espresso is really gone and I don't know what to do with that
I've been staring at my phone all morning since I read the news. Public Espresso closing all three locations after 13 years just hit me harder than I expected. Their downtown spot has been part of my morning routine for nearly a decade. The owners said the 'changing tides' of small business made things impossible to keep going, and honestly, I get it β€” but it doesn't make it hurt less. It feels like we keep losing the places that made Buffalo's food and coffee scene feel like something worth bragging about. For those of us who were regulars downtown β€” where are you going now? I want to make sure my money is still going to local roasters who are still fighting to stay open. Overwinter seems like the obvious move, but open to other suggestions.

The Burgard alumni aren't wrong, and the school board needs to hear that
I watched the news coverage of the Burgard alumni pushing back on BPS leadership, and every single thing they said was correct. Holes in the ceiling. Broken bathrooms. Clocks that don't work. These are the conditions kids on the East Side are trying to learn in. We live in a city where property taxes are among the highest in the country, and certain schools are literally falling apart. At what point does the board stop scheduling more meetings to 'review the situation' and actually write a check to fix these buildings? Those alumni showing up and making noise is exactly what needs to happen. Students at Burgard deserve to feel like their school was worth investing in. That shouldn't be a controversial position.
