Buffalo and WNY Municipalities Roll Out Pothole Patrols Following Spring Thaw

As the snow melts, pothole repair crews are getting to work fixing seasonal road damage across Buffalo.

WHY IT MATTERS: Spring road repairs bring some relief for drivers who have been dealing with vehicle damage from rough road conditions.

With winter conditions finally easing, drivers across Western New York are dealing with the region’s well known pothole season. On Sunday afternoon, local reports confirmed that municipal crews, including the City of Buffalo Department of Public Works, have begun major road repair efforts for the spring.

Frequent freezing and thawing over recent weeks has caused significant damage to roads, leaving large potholes along major streets such as Elmwood Avenue, Bailey Avenue, and Delaware Avenue. Residents have been actively reporting issues through community forums and the city’s 311 system.

To address the problem, nearby municipalities such as Tonawanda are introducing new approaches, including equipment that can recycle old asphalt into usable material even in colder temperatures. Many Buffalo residents are hoping to see similar efforts expand into neighborhood side streets soon.
