The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) has announced that it will be ending its bus service to the Amherst Development Park, effective immediately. This decision is expected to have a significant impact on commuters who rely on the bus service to travel to and from the park. The NFTA cited low ridership as the reason for ending the service, which was announced on June 19, 2026.
"The decision to end the bus service to the Amherst Development Park was not taken lightly, but it is necessary due to low ridership," said an NFTA spokesperson.
The Amherst Development Park is a major employment hub, with many businesses and organizations located within the park. The loss of bus service will affect not only commuters but also local businesses that rely on the service to transport their employees. Residents of Amherst, particularly those living in the Tonawanda and Kenmore areas, will be impacted by the change in service.
The NFTA is exploring alternative transportation options, including shuttle services, to mitigate the impact of the service reduction. The Town of Amherst is also expected to discuss the issue at its next council meeting, scheduled for early August, to explore possible solutions. Looking ahead, commuters and local businesses will be watching closely to see how the NFTA and the Town of Amherst address the transportation needs of the Amherst Development Park.
