Buffalo residents will soon have the chance to witness a spectacular piece of moving history. Three Union Pacific locomotives, including the famous "Big Boy," widely recognized as the world's largest operational steam locomotive, are scheduled to make a highly anticipated stop in the city.
The visit is part of a sprawling national tour organized to commemorate the United States' upcoming 250th birthday in 2026. The locomotive, which spans over 130 feet in length and weighs more than a million pounds, is a marvel of mid-20th-century engineering.
Local train enthusiasts, historians, and families are expected to flock to the rail yards to catch a glimpse of the massive engine. City officials are currently coordinating viewing areas and safety perimeters to accommodate the expected large crowds.
